1. How the course is laid out

The course runs in lanes. Each lane is a section, and you can open them in any order:

  • Processes - badging, access, tickets, SLAs, handoff, escalation, and the requests you raise with other teams.
  • Safety - the trainings that gate lab access, ESD, PPE, moving hardware, and the lift.
  • Tools - Royal TS, serial and SSH to a rack manager, PuTTY, and the commands you use daily.
  • Hardware - racks, cooling and airflow, thermal limits, server layout, and DC-SCM.
  • Firmware - what runs where, in-band versus out-of-band, and flashing.
  • Imaging - empty for now. Lessons are added as the guides are written.

Work top to bottom if you are starting from nothing. If you are here for one answer, open the lane and take the lesson you need.

2. What each lesson asks of you

Every lesson is a short article followed by five questions. Pick an answer and you are told why it is right or wrong, so a wrong answer is still worth something. Attempts are unlimited, and a completed check is worth 10 points however many tries it takes.

Some lessons carry their source document as a download. Take the download when you need the full procedure at the rack; the lesson itself teaches the rules you are expected to know without opening it.

3. The Certification

Week 1 closes with the Week 1 Certification, drawn from the same material as the lesson checks. The pass mark is 80% and retakes are unlimited. It is there to find the gaps worth a conversation.

Keep this. Lanes in any order. Five questions per lesson, 10 points a check, unlimited attempts. Downloads are for the rack, not for the check. Hands-on and setup are confirmed at the Day 5 handoff review, not here. Certification: 80%, unlimited retakes.
